Ingredients

  • 5 fresh jalapeño peppers
  • 4 pounds ground beef
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup steak sauce
  • 1/4 cup minced white onion
  • 1 teaspoon hot pepper sauce
  • 1 pinch dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1/4 cup crushed Fritos® corn chips
  • 8 large potato hamburger buns
  • 8 slices pepper jack cheese

Directions

  1. Prepare the grill:
Preheat your grill to high heat.
  2. Roast the jalapeños:
Place jalapeños directly on the hot grill and roast until the skins are blackened and blistered on all sides. Transfer them to a plastic bag or covered bowl for about 10 minutes to steam. Once cooled, rub off the charred skin, remove seeds if you prefer less heat, and finely chop.
  3. Mix the burger ingredients:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the roasted jalapeños, ground beef, salt, pepper, egg, steak sauce, minced onion, hot pepper sauce, oregano, Worcestershire sauce, garlic salt, and crushed Fritos®. Mix gently with your hands until just combined.
  4. Shape the patties:
Divide the mixture into 8 equal portions and form into burger patties.
  5. Grill the burgers:
Cook patties on the preheated grill for 10 to 15 minutes, turning once halfway through, or until cooked to your preferred doneness.
  6. Assemble:
Place each burger on a potato bun, top with a slice of pepper jack cheese, and serve hot.
